SUMMARY:Memorial Day
DESCRIPTION:The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. As Moment of Remembrance founder Carmella LaSpada states: “It’s a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day.” \nFor more information. \n  \nProgram Information – click here! \nFor flyer information click here.

SUMMARY:Bedford Day
DESCRIPTION:It’s that time of year again\, Bedford Day.  A day where you learn all the things about Bedford you never knew.  There are kids\, animals\, trucks\, food\, and more.  I personally love the simultaneous joy of the children and the disappointment of the parents after the goldfish is won.  It’s always a lot of fun and I look forward to it every year.  But the “every year” part got me thinking? \nWhat is the History of Bedford Day\, how did it start and why? \nSo once again\, off to the Bedford Historical Society to ask about Bedford Day.  It turns out the origins of Bedford Day are not all that clear. \nLike most great traditions\, things evolve.  There were several events that could be categorized as early Bedford Days.  But the modern incarnation is fairly recent. \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here.

SUMMARY:Veterans Day
DESCRIPTION:Veterans Day gives Americans the opportunity to celebrate the bravery and sacrifice of all U.S. veterans. However\, most Americans confuse this holiday with Memorial Day\, reports the Department of Veterans Affairs. \nWhat’s more\, some Americans don’t know why we commemorate our Veterans on Nov.11. It’s imperative that all Americans know the history of Veterans Day so that we can honor our former service members properly. \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here.

SUMMARY:Pole Capping
DESCRIPTION:The Liberty Pole Capping and Raising is a reenactment of a practice in Colonial America signifying dissatisfaction with varied rulings and conduct of the English government of that date.  It is meant to be commemorative of the spirit of liberty exemplified by Bedfordians and other colonials in the early phases of the War for Independence.  The Colonial units from the surrounding area form up on the Town Green\, in front of the Unitarian Church.  The VIP guests assemble at the Fitch Tavern. This is the place where the original Bedford Minutemen assembled on the morning of April 19th\, 1775. After the colonial units pass the Fitch Tavern\, on their way to Willson Park\, the VIPs and the Bedford Minutemen follow with the pole.  After a few words\, the pole is erected and capped\, and hopefully this will not attract the attention of any British patrols.  This takes about forty-five minutes or less if the weather doesn’t cooperate. \nFor more information. \nFor flyer information click here.
